RBC and me

When I was a little girl- I went to summer camp every year for around 9 years. Some of my favorite memories are from this camp in Brevard, NC. This past weekend they had their 90th reunion. I went and I became a camper again. Sleeping bag on a bunk, flashlights, arts and crafts, riflery, archery, long hikes up to castle rock, horseback riding, and canoeing. The songs, the smells, the girls that I bunked with -are all still the same. I was in my happy place. Here are a few snappies from my trip : )

I made a shirt for me, and necklaces and bracelets for my children. These are ripples from the little creek by the tennis courts that I used to put rocks in to make a damn when I was 10 years old

a few nature shots from my big walk Saturday AM up to Castle Rock and Kill-roys cabin…

Here is the cabin we stayed in- Half Pint- we fit 12 girls in it. and we did on this trip too. It was so amazing being with all the girls I grew up with every summer

Hello girls!!!

who knows when I wrote this on the wall.. but apparently I wrote it everywhere in the 1980’s -even trash cans.. I guess I was desperate to make my mark..

These are some dear old friends of mine- they are twins. love this photo of them

This is Jerry. He was at RBC when I was a camper. He has not changed a bit- still funny- and adorable.. he was like a father to me- and always had a wonderful story to tell. This is him telling a story on our climb to Castle Rock.

This is the view from Castle Rock.. the view is way prettier than this photo.. but this is to remind all the girls- now woman… who could not make it to camp this year : (

I had to add this one.. I did not do as well with the target as I had hoped. I thought once a sharp shooter always a sharp shooter.. but nope.. I realized I really need glasses!

a moment in time… thanks Talley for being my cute foot model

The water is still cold as ever.. That mountain spring water never warms up- even if they say it does…

Seriously fried chicken.. I think they even doubled dipped the fried.. I think I had like 5 pieces with my biscuit and gravy .. mmmmmmmm
On my walk to see the horses.. My favorite horse was Sam.. or Sambo. he was black and white, kind of slow, but steady and very gentle and sweet. He will always have a place in my heart. I just heard he had been there for 30 years.

The little supply house.. where we would buy pencils and stamps and shampoo and paper to spray perfume on to write all the boys at Camp Carolina- I still think of the boys every time I smell Polo cologne.. wow they put it on strong!!

One of the lodges, where we put skits on,  sang songs, curled our hair for the dances with the boys camp, and we would watch the sunsets here.

And here I am.. kicking back at Goodwill.. where all the packages would be for us to pick up after lunch. It was my favorite line to stand in, as my mother and aunt were always great about sending me packages and trying to sneak candy into the camp: )

I cannot wait for my daughters to go here.. and to sing the same songs with them, and talk about all our memories.. just thinking about it puts me in my happy place.

Thank you to Sarah and Jeff, and Charlotte, Jerry and all the wonderful staff.. see you in 5 years..

K + W

We went to Pear Tree Point Beach for this family shoot. The kids were incredibly fun and full of energy. It was the perfect time of day- after 5- and slighly overcast- which I prefer!  I think I could have kept taking photographs until the sun fully set- as this family was so fun and playful.

Rowayton mini shoot

I love going to Rowayton for photo shoots.. so pretty with all the beaches and boats! We had a mini shoot- as grandmother was in town- we captured a few before she leaves..  Decatur is one of my favorite all time boys to photograph. He is a genius. He makes me laugh- when I am trying to make him laugh for the camera   : ) His little sister  is incredibly sweet and I love her smiles.

Airport!

I took this photo of my daughter Amelia when we were traveling this Spring. This was the first time she had flown in a few years ( 3 kids.. hard to travel : ) — so everything was amazing and new to her.. This reminds me of when I was little and flew for the first time, except the difference is people dressed up back then and it was such an event.  School is almost out, and I hope everyone has wonderful Summer vacations… I will be here.. working in the new studio if anyone is up for a Summer shoot– as the Fall is totally booked up now.. but there are still openings in August and September!!

French Quarter

My husband took the children Saturday morning so I could be set free in the French Quarter alone ( Thank you Paul !).   I had  a wedding to photograph that evening so I had plenty of time to get lost and let my creative energy go. I had such an amazing time, and I felt inspired with every step I took. It is amazing how being in New Orleans can make you feel like you are in another country.
